The Poison
Delhi riot 2020. One religion of people beating someone who is from another religion.
Love happens, naturally! Falling in love with something or someone is a passive activity. You don’t need motivation for that. You just simply fall in love. Dhoni doesn’t need a cause to fall in love with cricket. While hate doesn't occur naturally. It needs some cause. Indians have a cause to hate the Britishers. Humans are naturally born to love. But after birth, they either learn or are taught to hate others. People are not born as bad people – they are not born as communal, casteist, sexist, murderers, rapists, etc. – they become bad when they start hating.
Why do people hate?
1. Self-hatred – The hatred of other people often comes from hatred of one's self-being. Such people have a characteristic of self-disliking. Most of the time, rejections, break-ups, and academic failures cause self-doubting and self-disliking. They do not love(like) themselves, which generates a feeling of hatred for themselves and others.
We see the world the way we see ourselves. We treat the world the way we treat ourselves. They have never been liked or loved by anyone. They feel that they have nothing special that will impress the public or even themselves. It's in human nature that everyone likes to be liked by everyone. Everyone loves appreciation. And there's nothing wrong with it. But the problem starts when they want appreciation without doing anything, without doing any hard work or developing any skill. Some people are born with talent or good looks or into a privileged family. These people do not need to make much effort, but others need, there’s no other way. Incompetence and insecurities cause hate for others. If we are not good at something or lack something generates a feeling of hatred for others. Rather than making efforts to achieve it, we engage ourselves in hatred or jealousy.
Some people feel that they do not have any self-identity. After choosing the path of hatred, they think that they have gotten an identity, an identity of a saviour, pretending that they are saving their race, country, and religion by hating and taking revenge on people of other races, countries, and religions.
2. Surrounding Environment - The kind of parents, friends, and life partner you live with decides how your brain thinks. If people in your surroundings hate some group of people, it is most likely that you will also start hating the same group of people. Young minds are affected the most by their surroundings. That’s why everyone believes that their race, religion, and country are superior to others, which is taught in their childhood. The future of the country depends on the kind of data you feed into the country’s young minds.
After 30 years of age, people become very rigid, and then it’s very hard to change their ideology. It’s not like it can’t be changed, but then the process becomes very time and energy-consuming, and the rate of desirable change is less. That’s why it’s better to invest in young minds. Great books, articles, and good company of people should be made available to young minds, and that’s the parent’s and teachers’ responsibility. If, after birth, people learn to hate others, then they can be taught to love again.
3. Genetics – Genes carry most human behaviours from one generation to another. External stimuli influence the mind, but genetic factors also play a major role. If someone’s math is so good, then it is most likely that their parents’ math is also good. Likewise, in most cases, the behaviour of hating or loving something is transferred from parents to their children.
4. Social Media – Knowing a 60 year old good hearted uncle, who recently retired. He spends all his day on social media, as he has empty days. All day he reads WhatsApp forwarded Islamophobic messages. He is always worried that one day his religion will vanish because of Islam. Now he is having mental issues. He is always anxious. He is not getting enough sleep.
The same things are happening with youth, especially the unemployed ones, because of empty minds. The government is spending a lot of money on spreading fake news. People are getting trapped in it. They are hating others based on their religion or race, or country, and it’s very hard to counter the fake information they have. For that, you have to build an another social media team that has resources.
5. Politics – Winning elections on the issues that are important to people is very hard but not impossible. You need to do a lot of hard work to get people’s affection. Solving climate change issues is very hard, and getting votes on the issue is even harder than solving the issue. So politicians have found another easy way to win elections – play with peoples’ emotions. As people’s religion, race, and country are very close to their heart, politicians try to represent themselves as saviours of people’s religion or race or country by telling them that their religion or race or country is under threat from another religion or race or country, respectively. That’s how people get trapped. People believe that their politicians are their saviours who are protecting their religion, race, and country. Meanwhile, people start hating other group of people; this hatred for others makes them forget their real issues.
6. Trauma – Childhood traumas, whether physical or mental, affect people seriously. As they suffer because of traumas, they start to believe that the world is filled with cruelty. As someone has done something bad to them, they think everyone in this world is bad. They see the whole world suspiciously. They start to hate the world.
Traumas can be:
Physical traumas
Sexual traumas
Rejections
Break-ups
Academic failures
Seen a lot of violence in childhood or lost someone because of violence
Usually, the victim hates the culprit, but does that make the victim’s life any better? No. Hating the culprit only makes the victim’s life more miserable. In my entire life, the happiest people I have ever met were the ones who do not hate anyone; while the ones who hate others are not happy that much. They are always frightened. They always complain about something. Hate takes away mental peace and productivity. Hate causes overthinking, which leads to mental illness – anxiety, depression, insomnia, OCD, etc. Hate makes them sick and cowards.
The victim always thinks about the culprit, and continuously thinking about him makes the victim more like a culprit. Hate affects the person harbouring it more than the object it is aimed at.
As someone has done something bad to you, you start hating him; you try to take revenge. In the process, you become a criminal of yourself, and you don’t even realize that. Sometimes victim’s hate for the culprit misfires on innocent life, as the culprit wasn’t there to target. That’s how crimes and criminals are increasing in the world. No one is born a criminal; they become one, once they start hating others. Hate is a source of all crimes. Mahatma Gandhiji has aptly said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”
That doesn’t mean that all culprits should be acquitted; they should be punished as the fear of punishment is necessary for society. But hating the culprit is wrong. I know it’s easy to say that the victim should forgive the culprit, but there’s no other way. Eventually, the victim is going to regret that he has wasted his time and energy in hating the culprit, and he should have forgiven the culprit a long time ago. Initially, the idea of forgiveness seems foolish, but once someone forgives, he feels better. Forgiveness gives relief and peace, and a good sleep. What's the point in living if, after doing wrong things and hating others you are not getting peace and good sleep? Forgiveness increases productivity.
Rahul Gandhi once said, “I remember when I saw Mr Prabhakaran (one who killed Rajiv Gandhi) on TV lying dead, I got two feelings – one was why they are humiliating this man in this way. And second, I felt very bad for him and his kids, and I did that because I understood deeply what it meant to be on the other side of that thing. So, to me, when I see violence, regardless of who it is, I know that there is a human being behind that, there is a family behind that, a kid crying behind that. I have been through a lot of pain to get this.”
If you hate people of other families, you can’t love people of your own family.
If you hate people of other castes/religions, you can’t love people of your caste/religion.
If you hate people of other countries, you can’t love people of your own country.
If you hate people of a different colour than yours, then you can’t love people of your colour.
While hating someone, we are keeping a part of hate in our brains. People who hate others based on their race, gender, religion, caste, etc., and then say that they love their spouse, children, or parents are lying, they are lying. The one who hates others can’t love anyone in this world, not even himself.
If there’s hate, then there can’t be love. Even a matchstick burns itself; it loses its existence after burning others.
No person or country can grow or live happily if there is instability and hatred.
I can confidently say that Modi doesn't hate Muslims, he motivates people to hate Muslims, because if he had hated them he wouldn't have become the prime minister, it takes so much focus, and a stable and peaceful mind to become a prime minister. Hatred-filled mind or country is never stable and peaceful.
Hate is a poison, and it doesn’t spare anyone, not even the one who is spreading it. The fire people are spreading to burn other people’s houses will eventually burn their own. People are making bombs in their houses, live human bombs filled with hatred, which will blast at anyone, anytime. That’s why we are getting news like a husband killing his wife, a son killing his father, a father raping his daughter and then killing her, etc. On this earth, which parents would like to see their child becoming a criminal and spending his entire life in jail or getting killed in a riot? Have you ever seen politicians’ children in riots? Politicians are smart and selfish. They will send their children abroad for better education and will make the public’s children illiterate. There’s a reason behind it – illiterate people don’t ask questions. They can be fooled easily.
You see all over the world that no one has got anything in return after hating others. Nazis didn’t get anything in return after hating Jews. In the last decade, what India got in return after hating its minority? Nothing. However, the situation has gotten worse.
• Corruption increased
• Unemployment increased
• Wages not rising
• Crimes, riots, and lynching increased
• Lost some Indian territory to China
• No economic growth
• exports declined
• Bank fraud increased
• Inflation increased
• Pollution increased
• Social harmony disturbed
Modi’s religious nationalism has harmed not only Muslims but also Hindus.
The world is infected by the ‘Hate’ virus, and ‘love’ is the vaccine. Hate always divides people; it makes them weak, while love unites people, and only it can make them stronger. We blame Hitler for everything that happened, but we don’t blame the people who supported him. The problem isn’t only Nero but also his guests. He wasn’t the disease; he was the symptom of the disease the people had – the hate disease. Devils are a byproduct of our society. Trump has gone, but the US has already created thousands of Trump. In 2020 they treated the symptom and not the disease. The disease is still there – the hatred for black and migrant people. Treating symptoms will only give temporary relief. They will come again. We have to treat the disease. We have to treat the people.
Maybe the people who believe in love are not making enough efforts. They are not opposing the people who are spreading hatred. Nothing can be taken for granted. You have to make continuous efforts every day to make this world a beautiful place. Otherwise, someday, another Modi will be born.
